GET SET FOR THE IGGI CONFERENCE 2026

Our Education Ambassador The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Intelligent Games and Game Intelligence (iGGi)  has opened registration for BiGGi Con 2026, which will take place on September 15th-17that the Queen Mary University of London.

The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Intelligent Games and Game Intelligence (iGGi) is the world’s largest PhD research programme focused on games research. Their mission is to unlock the full potential of games research to contribute to wellbeing, prosperity, and science by training the next generation of leading researchers, designers and developers in games.

Based at the University of York, Queen Mary, Goldsmiths, and Essex, iGGi students undertake a four year PhD in impact-oriented games research, working closely with more than 80 partner organisations in the games industry and society. iGGi students advance games with research, software, patents, algorithms, data analytic techniques and creative works from player experience and game design to games and play for health, education, or research.

You can register your place at the conference here.

What is iGGi Con?
The iGGi Conference is an in-person, annual, public event organised by the Postgraduate Researchers (PGRs) and Staff of the iGGi Centre for Doctoral Training. The iGGi Conference has been operating annually for over 10 years and has established itself as a showcase of the iGGi PGRs’ work and as a networking platform that brings academic research, innovation and the games industry together. Each iGGi conference also features external Keynote Speakers – this year’s lineup includes Jackie Mulligan (Game Republic), Thomas Keane & Ben Ackland (Meaning Machine), and Constance Steinkuehler & Kurt Squire (University of California). Additionally, there will be seven iGGi Alumni Talks.

Why has this year’s iGGi Conference been branded BiGGi Con 2026?BiGGi Con 2026 is special because it will likely be the last iGGi conference of its kind. The team is hoping to gather everyone who was ever involved in iGGi, past and present, to celebrate iGGi’s achievements, but most of all its people and each individual journey.

A specific focus this year will be on the iGGi Alumni. As part of this focus, BiGGi Con 2026 will see seven Alumni Talks, namely by Carlos González Díaz, Cristina Dobre, James Goodman, Joseph Walton-Rivers, Jozef Kulik, Nathan Hughes and Nick Ballou. Please see here for further details regarding Alumni participation during BiGGi Con 2026.
