WOMEN, EQUALITY & EUROPE’S DIGITAL FUTURE: JOIN US IN ROME
This November, Women in Games will bring together women’s organisations, equality networks and partners from across Europe for a special two-day international roundtable at The Games Forum Roma, taking place on 12–13 November 2026 at Villa Mondragone, Rome.
The Games Forum Roma is a new international forum created by Women in Games and Structura, with the University of Rome Tor Vergata as Main Partner. It brings together games, academia, culture and public institutions to explore the cultural and societal future of games – and, crucially, to turn conversation into collaboration and action.
At the heart of this founding edition will be a dedicated conversation about women, equality and Europe’s digital future.
Why now?
Europe has entered an important new period for gender equality. The European Commission’s Gender Equality Strategy 2026–2030 sets out renewed ambitions for equality both online and offline, including women’s economic empowerment and leadership, equal employment opportunities, freedom from gender-based violence, and emerging challenges associated with AI, cyberviolence and digital spaces.
For Women in Games, this raises an important question:
What should games and the wider creative and digital industries contribute to Europe’s gender equality ambitions to 2030 – and what could women’s organisations achieve together that none of us can achieve alone?
Our Rome Roundtable will bring together invited organisations working across games, film, media, technology, education, culture and the wider creative industries to begin answering that question.
This will not simply be another series of presentations. It will be a collaborative working space in which participants can share evidence and experience, identify common challenges and explore opportunities for collective action.
We will consider four interconnected areas: participation – enabling more women and girls to enter, remain and progress in our sectors; power – strengthening women’s leadership and influence over the decisions shaping culture and technology; safety and technology – including online harms, AI bias and technology-facilitated gender-based violence; and collective action to 2030 – identifying what we could build and achieve together.
From conversation to action
We want the work in Rome to leave something tangible behind.
One of the planned outcomes of The Games Forum Roma is a set of Women in Games Recommendations, capturing practical priorities emerging from the international roundtable.
But our ambition goes further.
The Forum will also launch CIRCULUS, a new international collaboration network intended to carry the strongest ideas beyond Rome into year-round relationships, working groups, knowledge exchange and future collaborations.
We see the founding Forum as the beginning of a longer journey: one through which organisations with different expertise, constituencies and geographical perspectives can find common ground and potentially develop new European partnerships, research and programmes towards 2030.
We want you in the conversation
We are now interested in hearing from women’s organisations, gender equality networks, researchers, educators, industry associations and organisations working across games, technology, media and the creative industries who would like to contribute to this founding conversation.
The Games Forum Roma is deliberately intimate, with just 80–100 participants across industry, academia, culture and institutions, allowing conversations and introductions to have real depth.
Participation is free of charge, but places are limited and registration is required.
