GET SET TO NOMINATE FOR THE WOMEN IN GAMES GLOBAL AWARDS!

The Women in Games Global Awards is set to take place on September 17th – and we’ll very shortly be opening for submissions, so here’s all you need to know to ready your nomination…

Can I nominate myself?
Absolutely. In fact, we thoroughly recommend you put yourself forward for as many relevant awards as possible. Be your own champion! Our previous ‘Hall of Fame’ winners put it perfectly in a two-minute clip at our recent webinar series. Watch here.

What has changed to the Women in Games Global Awards in 2022?
This year we have focused on the incredible impact that those in the games and esports industries have achieved. Our awards are now split into four areas; Public Vote, Impact, Education and Women in Games Community, with our Lifetime Achievement Award inducting winners into the Hall of Fame.

If I was unsuccessfully shortlisted at previous Women in Games Awards, can I nominate again this year?
Yes, we welcome nominations from previous entrants or nominees.

Can we nominate non-binary and gender diverse folks?
Yes, you certainly can, Women in Games is committed to celebrating all under-represented identities in the industry and would welcome applications from, and nominations, for non-binary and gender diverse candidates.

Who can be nominated for the Women in Games Community Awards?
Specifically for the Community Awards we are looking for nominations from existing Women in Games Individual or Corporate Ambassadors. These awards are not eligible for those not already working with Women in Games.

What do I need to include in my nomination?
We ask for:

  • A short paragraph (500 words max) on why you or the person or group you are nominating should be considered for this award.
  • A profile photograph of the person you are nominating or a logo (or appropriate alternative image) for the group or organisation you are nominating.
  • (optional) any relevant attachments, links or videos that help support your nomination.
  • Contact details for your nomination (unless nominating yourself).
  • Confirmation that your nomination works or participates in the games or esports industry and is willing to take part in the awards process.

How many times can I nominate?
You can nominate up to 10 times across all categories.

How do you shortlist the finalists?
Those successfully nominated will be judged and shortlisted by a panel of judges from the Women in Games Advisory Board and the wider games and esports industries.

IMPACT AWARDS

Most Inclusive Video Games Initiative
This award celebrates the events, interventions, programs and actions which are helping bring about real change in the games industry. Nominations for this award can be individuals who are organising the initiative or the initiative itself, such as a really impactful event or activity. Where you are nominating an initiative, please ensure that you include the name and contact details for someone involved so that we can reach them directly.

Most Inclusive Esports Initiative
This award celebrates the events, interventions, programs and actions which are helping bring about real change in the esports industry. Nominations for this award can be individuals who are organising the initiative or the initiative itself, such as a really impactful tournament or activity. Where you are nominating an initiative, please ensure that you include the name and contact details for someone involved so that we can reach them directly.

Individual Diversity Advocate
Shining a light on the people who are working to improve diversity in the games industry through their advocacy, actions and support. Nominees for this award are individuals who are giving their all, inspiring others with their work in diversity for games and/or esports. They might work behind the scenes or take on the role of an ambassador for their work, this award is to celebrate them and their impact.

Community Group making an impact in Diversity
Community groups support the grass roots of the games industry and help connect people across the globe around games and gaming. This award is to honour a group which has had a significant impact. Nominees for this award can either be the individuals behind the community such as community organisers, community managers and leaders, or the community groups themselves. When nominating the community group please ensure you provide clear examples of how they have had a positive impact on diversity in games and/or esports.

Amplifier of Diversity in the Industry – Media
Those working in the media play a significant role in promoting, amplifying and supporting diversity in the industry. We want to honour those who are committed to bringing about change. Nominees for this award will be working in media, they may be involved in journalism, writing, editing, media production, content creation, video journalists and more. Please include links to content from the individual which support your nomination to help the judges in their deliberation.

EDUCATION AWARDS

Student Achievement
Celebrating the next generation of games industry talent, the student achievement award shines a light on those who are already showing promise in their studies. Nominees for this award will be final year students and those who graduated in 2021 or 2022. Students of all levels are considered, whether studying at a college or university, undergraduate, postgraduate, doctorate level or beyond. When nominating individuals for this award, please include details of the educational institution they belong to and attach any evidence you feel supports the nomination such as links to work, research, portfolios etc.

Games or Esports Educator
Providing dedicated and inspirational staff members with the recognition they deserve. Educators are pivotal to championing diversity in the industry. Open to school, college and university educators. Educators are considered, whether teaching at a school, college or university, independently or within a national system. Nominees can be impactful individuals who are not teachers – they could be support staff or work with students in another capacity. Please make this clear in the supporting information. When nominating individuals for this award, please include details of the educational institution they belong to and attach any evidence you feel supports the nomination such as links to work, research, portfolios etc.

Games or Esports Diversity Initiative
For groups, teams and communities which have been working to advocate and support diversity in their academic institutions. Open to all colleges and universities. Nominations for this award can be individuals who are organising the initiative or the initiative itself, such as a really impactful event or activity. Where you are nominating an initiative, please ensure that you include the name and contact details for someone involved so that we can reach them directly. Please also make sure to include the educational institution the initiative is associated with.

PUBLIC VOTE

Favourite Women Game Protagonist
Which characters have inspired you? This award showcases the brilliant protagonists featured in games, allowing the public to have their say on their favourite. Nominations for this award will be profiled publicly on the awards website so please ensure all imagery, videos and content provided is suitable and able to be publicly shared. Please ensure you include direct contact details for an individual working on the game you are nominating so that the awards team can get in touch with them.

Best Representation of Women in a Game
Which games have featured women in a way that has really stayed with you? This publicly voted award seeks to highlight the games which have given women fantastic representation. This can be for championing the diverse teams behind a game, as well as the content within the game itself. Nominations for this award will be profiled publicly on the awards website so please ensure all imagery, videos and content provided is suitable and able to be publicly shared. Please ensure you include direct contact details for an individual working on the game/for the team you are nominating so that the awards team can get in touch with them.

WOMEN IN GAMES AMBASSADOR AWARDS

Outstanding Corporate Ambassador of the Year
Our Corporate Ambassadors play a pivotal role in the work that Women in Games is able to do each year. This award is to recognise the impact, the outreach and the support they have provided. Judges are looking for the recent impact of the Corporate Ambassador focusing on their achievements in 2021/22, taking into account how their work has helped Women in Games further their mission. Please ensure to include as much supporting content as possible, evidencing the work that has taken place. Only current Women in Games Corporate Ambassadors are able to be nominated for this award.

Outstanding Individual Ambassador of the Year
The Individual Ambassadors are the backbone of the organisation’s community work. They champion our aims and ideals, helping the industry become a more inclusive and diverse place. Judges are looking for the recent impact of the Individual Ambassador, focusing on their achievements in 2021/22, taking into account how their work has helped Women in Games further their mission. Please ensure to include as much supporting content as possible, evidencing the work that has taken place. Only current Women in Games Individual Ambassadors are able to be nominated for this award.

Lifetime Achievement
This award is to recognise those women who have had a constant, positive impact both on the industry and those around them. They pave the way for others to succeed. Winners of this award join the Women in Games Hall of Fame which celebrates the achievements of leading women in the video games, gaming and esports sectors. Nominations for the award will be for individuals who have a number of years experience supporting diversity in their industry. Please ensure to include as much supporting content as possible, evidencing the work that has taken place. Contact details for the person you are nominating are required for the awards team to get in touch with the nominee.
